Scorpiurus muricatus
Σκορπίουρος ο εχινόδερμος
It is the only Scorpiurus species found so far in Cyprus. Its name derives from “scorpios” and “oura” which mean “scorpion tail”. “Muricatus” in Latin means “rough with short, hard points”. It blooms for a long period, from February till June, and in Cyprus it is encountered all around the island at an altitude of up to 600 metres.
