Hyoscyamus albus

Hyoscyamus albus
Δυοσκύαμος, Δοντόχορτο, Δαιμοναρκά, Γέρος
Ancient Greek “Hyoscyamus” means “hog bean”, Latin “albus” means “white”. There are two Hyoscyamus species in Cyprus and both of them are uncommon plants. Hyoscyamus albus appears all around Cyprus, except in the Central Mesaoria region and the Karpasia peninsula, at an altitude of up to 925 metres. It is most common in moderate altitudes. It is a toxic plant including hyoscyamine, which acts as atropine.
